Andreas Schulze-Bonhage is professor of neurology and clinical neurophysiology and head of the Epilepsy Centre at the University Hospital in Freiburg, Germany. This epilepsy center ranks among the largest in Germany with an outpatient clinic devoted to epilepsy diagnosis, pharmacotherapy, and vagus nerve stimulation, and an epilepsy surgery program which closely cooperates with the Kork Epilepsy center and the universities of Heidelberg and Kiel. In 2008, 100 patients underwent therapeutical surgical procedures; in addition, deep brain stimulation is being offered. Andreas Schulze-Bonhage has research interest in the fields of electrophysiology of interictal-ictal transitions, seizure prediction, EEG and fMRI correlates of memory, epileptogenicity of malformations of cortical development, epilepsy surgery and brain stimulation. He has published more than 140 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and conducted more than 20 multicenter pharmaceutical studies as a principle investigator. In addition to his clinical duties, he is a faculty member of the Bernstein Centre for Computational Neuroscience Freiburg, trainer at the European Epilepsy Academy, Member of several scientific communities, and Co-editor of Epilepsy Research & Treatment and of the Zeitschrift für Epileptologie.
